meet the artist
Ana Luísa Pinto (she/her) is a photographer and visual artist who has always felt the need to turn thoughts, feelings, and the things that fascinate her into something tangible. She was born and lives in Porto, a city by the sea in the North of Portugal.
She’s a crafter and a foodie, a choir singer and a middle-of-the-dance-floor dancer. She’s a reader and a writer, a nerd and people person — all in one short package. She has freckles and curly hair that she will tame for weddings, with a white streak in the front that makes her feel like Susan Sontag. Her camera is an extension of her being; she spends most of her time taking pictures of people she loves.
Warmth is her thing — she thinks coolness is overrated. She’ll be with you fully, present and aware in the moment. She believes that’s the biggest gift she can give you: the gift of time and attention, of dedication to your story.

how i work
The visual language I bring to The Luminous is deeply rooted in my background in art, and in a fascination with the way light can transform a subject. I’m drawn to the dramatic interplay of light and shadow found in Mannerist and Baroque painting, as well as to the way light moves across sculpture, revealing form, texture, and volume.
My work is cinematic and intimate, poetic and joyous, with a particular sensitivity to the passage of time.
I don’t believe you have to pick between having art and having a visual document of your day.
I’m drawn to the poetry of gestures, of fleeting expressions and beautiful imperfections, and the quiet moments that make ordinary life feel extraordinary.
At the heart of my work is a simple fascination: the possibility of turning something ephemerous — a feeling, a moment, a life — into something tangible, lasting, and deeply personal for my couples.

The way here
I trained in Conservation and Restoration of Art, Art History, and finally, photography. Eventually, I discovered that I was much more interested in creating art than restoring it.
Photography turned out to be the way I most naturally made sense of the world.
Since 2008, I’ve explored photography as a form of artistic expression, often using my own body as a medium for dreamlike, conceptual self-portraits. I have over two thousand pieces, which have been exhibited in advertisement, magazines, book covers and galleries — with solo exhibits in Portugal and Spain. As a self-portrait artist, I’ve been featured repeatedly in PhotoVOGUE, as well as on the cover of Australia’s MAEVE magazine.
In 2010, I founded Luminous Photography, which has since evolved into The Luminous, my wedding and portrait photography atelier. Based in Porto, but serving most European countries, I now photograph people and stories from all over the world.
